Together in the right direction
Bol started in 1999 as an online store with the goal to make the purchase of products as easy as possible for our customers. The e-commerce market has been continuously changing since then, which requires us to be flexible and innovative, but also to take responsibility. This desire to improve is set in our nature: we want to make sustainable shopping easier and we involve our customers, suppliers and sales partners. By this we move in the right direction together.
Our mission
We want to do better every day; from packaging and delivery as economically as possible to the use of 100% local and solar energy in our buildings.
In addition, within our wide assortment range, it is important that customers can make well-informed choices. Also with regard to the origin, production process and environmental impact of items. That is why we explain the benefits of articles and their positive qualities.
Our B Corp certification shows how seriously we take our role in society and the high standards we strive for.

Choosing easier
More than a million of our items have a special label: the globe. This label helps you make a good choice. Items with a globe have significant (sustainability) advantages over comparable items. They all have one or more quality and/or features that are aligned with Milieu Centraal.
Think of items made from at least 50% recycled material, items with a Fairtrade quality mark or devices that use less energy than their counterparts.
If you would like to see all articles with a globe label in an overview or perhaps you would like to read more about all the different initiatives bol has in the field of corporate social responsibility, read here.
Sustainable logistics
We work every day to realize our ambition. Bol has already taken important steps in making its own operations more sustainable. We package and deliver our packages more and more efficiently: in 2023 we sent 5.1 million orders without an outer box. An increase of no less than 20 percent in these 'No Pack orders' compared to 2022. This means that the packages are smaller, more packages fit in the bus and fewer transport journeys are required. Together with our transport partners, we continuously look at how we can deliver better by driving electrically or by bicycle. In addition, we use 100% wind and solar energy in the fulfillment centers and the head office to further reduce CO2 emissions.
Here you can read more about all the initiatives we have to reduce CO2 emissions within logistics.
